Owner/Instructor Tom Martin
USFA Certified Coach

Sport fencing is one of the original sports of the
modern Olympic Games.

Training for the sport improves strategic thinking, problem solving, focus and attention to detail.
It is also an excellent form of exercise.

Key benefits are cardiovascular health and endurance.

Development of timing, tempo, rhythm, balance
and coordination are further benefits.

Most important - this sport is FUN!

Fencing is ideal for those that have a
strong competitive nature.
The fencing community in Western Washington
is expanding and offers great opportunity
to develop new relationships with
other coaches and competitors all over the state.

Classes are held at:
The Kitsap Fencing Center
2505 Mile Hill Drive
Suite B102
Port Orchard, WA 98366

The Kitsap Fencing Center is located right next door to the Thai restaurant in the East Port Orchard Commerce Center directly across the street from the Port Orchard Armory.

Current schedule:

Adult/Family 6:00 - 7:30pm

Friday Night Fencing is coming soon!  Stop in, check out the gear, try your hand (foil?) at fencing and watch others give it a try!

Weapons

There are 3 different weapons used in Sport Fencing:
the foil, épée and saber.
At Kitsap Fencing Center, we believe that the best
way to learn to fence is with foil.  Developing solid
skills in foil teaches the basics of the sport and makes
it easier to transition into the other two weapons should
a student be interested.

Safety

In any fencing event, protective equipment must be worn.  This includes a jacket, glove, mask, and breeches (known as "knickers" in the U.S.).

In electric fencing, the tip of the foil must
be depressed while in contact with the
opponent's lamé (wire-mesh jacket which
covers valid target area) to score a touch.

There are minimum standards for impact
resistance of each piece of gear.
All safety equipment is regularly
tested to maintain safety standards.
